Books As Common Resource - A Manifesto (2012)

ODEI, the Italian Observatory of Independent Publishers connecting 75 members, released a Manifesto on 5 December 2012, focusing on the issues related to the book crisis in Italy. The general crisis of cultural institutions is also targeted by this analysis, as well as its consequences: first of all, the dwindling critical tools available to readers. Some possible solutions are drafted, or rather - some readily available countermeasures to this trend.

Interesting, challenging. It gave me - as a museum professional in charge of a public library overloaded with much too many copies of the volumes we keep and produce - many ideas of how and where to contribute myself in disseminating (written) knowledge…
